Need to Increase Your Child’s Physical Activity? Why DANCE is the Answer!

As PE classes become virtual and activities are cancelled, most kids are not getting as much physical activity as they used to. Physical activity is so important for growing kids. It builds strong muscles and bones for healthy growth, promotes better focus in school, and more important now than ever, boosts kids’ immune systems.

In addition, children who participate in physical activity at a young age are more likely to continue to be active throughout their life. Children should have at least 60 minutes of moderate physical activity each day, and participate in a higher intensity physical activity for 60 minutes, at least 3 days a week.

There is no better way to stay active than dancing! The creative environment filled with music and engaging instructors provides dancers with the recommended physical activity, as they learn and practice various genres of movement. Dance helps increase kids’ muscle strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance, while also improving their agility and body awareness. Impact focuses on these components, even with our dancers as young as 18 months!

Also, in these times, it is especially important to boost your child’s social/emotional health. Dance provides kids with a fun setting, where they can meet friends and learn new skills, in addition to staying physically active. The benefits of this physical activity can even translate into other areas beyond dance: promoting good posture, increasing coordination for other sports, and serving as an excellent outlet for stress. Dance is a great source of the physical activity many kids are lacking right now, and they do it all while having fun!
